Thanksgiving is here, which means is it officially time to start the countdown to Christmas! I've seen signs in stores telling me how close Christmas is and it always gets me excited. I figured maybe we should have our own little Christmas countdown sign at home. To make it easy to change the days, I wanted to make it a chalkboard countdown. I had seen a similar piece on Red Envelope for $40, but knew I could make it on my own for much cheaper. I actually made it for free since I had all of the items I needed on hand.
I had some 8 x 10 inch canvases left from my DIY Canvas Photo project. I used some chalkboard spray paint and covered the front and sides with a few light coats of paint. Follow the directions for your paint on the back of the can.
After the canvas had dried, I placed my stickers in place to spell out Days Until the Hufford Christmas. The stickers weren't sticking that well, so I added a coat of mod podge to keep them in place. That worked great.
I also made another Chalkboard Countdown for my brother and his kids. Instead of using stickers, I used a white paint pen to write out my message. This works well if you have good handwriting. Obviously, the stickers were better for me. And no, that is not a typo. My maiden name and my brother's last name is This, pronounced Teece.
Now all you need is a piece of chalk to keep track of the days left until Christmas! My girls will love to see the numbers get smaller. Such an easy project too that can be used year after year.
