Christmas will be here before you know it. But really I collect ornaments any time of year. I like to pick one up to remember our family vacations. I like to have them to commemorate special events. Our Christmas tree is more like a trip down memory lane, each a special reminder of times we've had together. Is your tree like that too?
You don't have to spend a lot of money to have a special ornament, it can mean even more to make it yourself. They make the perfect gifts as well. This ornament is one I made for a friend for her wedding gift using her wedding invitation. Yours doesn't have to be for a wedding, it could be for a baby shower, birthday or any event that you receive an invitation. You will need a clear ornament ball. Mine was plastic, to make it family friendly, but you could use glass as well. I found mine at Hobby Lobby. Just make sure the top comes off so that you are able to slip stuff inside the ball.
Start by cutting your invitation into strips. The width is up to you. The invitation alone may not be enough filler for your ornament ball, so you may also want to cut strips of matching scrapbook paper. I chose a textured gold that matched the gold foil of the invite.
The next step is to roll up each strip. While they are still rolled tight, slip them inside of your ornament ball. They will naturally loosen up. You can always poke it around with a pencil if you would like to loosen them up anymore.
Fill your ball up as full as you would like. You could always add other little embellishments like charms or ribbon. Curling some ribbon would be great filler too. It's also a great way to add color.
This is such a great gift and such a fun memory for the Bride and Groom to look at every year. A little reminder of their very special day.
So cute! My mom actually made a very similar ornament for me last Christmas. What a great idea!!
