Could this really be my first college football game? Actually I don't really think it even counts since it was only an inter-squad scrimmage! It's crazy because I did go to college, but that's what happens when you go to a small liberal arts school in a small town. I attended Stetson University in the town of DeLand. It's somewhere between Daytona Beach and Orlando, FL. We never had a football team when I was there. Now we are finally joining the big leagues, well at least the Pioneer League. Next year will be the first time that Stetson has fielded a football team since 1956.
There was a pretty good turn out for the game and for the food trucks. You could tell because they were running out of food! I love eating at the food trucks. We love sampling items from as many different places as we can. They had all the trucks lined up next to the fields and tents and tables close to the dorms on the other side of the street. My freshman dorm is the first building on the left.
They were starting to run out of ice, but we were lucky enough to get one of theses shaved ices with mango puree from Beard Papa's. Yum!
I was disappointed that we didn't make it to the bookstore. It seems like it is always closed when I get there. Maybe one of the perks of having a football team will be the ability to buy Stetson merchandise at somewhere other than the school bookstore. I'm very jealous that you can find college gear almost anywhere for the big schools. I mean our Walmart even carries some of the local high school T's and sweatshirts! Another perk of the football team is the addition of women's lacrosse to the school and the awesome fieldhouse that the lacrosse and soccer teams' get to share with the football team. No walking across campus from the soccer field just to get to the locker room. You can check out some pics of the new fieldhouse from my soccer alumni weekend.
Sorry my pictures were so bad. I didn't have my good camera with me. Check out some photos of the event at the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
The college life is very different than school life. When you are teen year age your thinking your mentality and your vision exactly change. You have to take keen interest and participate in the sports event. You want to show yourself in front of the peoples and you want show do something.
