Crystal Light Container to Sunglasses Holder

I've noticed how many canisters, jars, and plastic containers we've been acquiring these days.  Containers from lysol wipes, baby foods, baby wipes, food jars, and now drink mix containers.  The single serving drink mixes are a hit in my household.  I'm a big water drinker.  That's usually all I drink, except for my daily coffee and the occasional diet soda.  I do like plain water, but sometimes you just need a little flavor.  The Crystal Light packs are great to add some flavor with just a few calories.  The packets used to come in a small cardboard box, but they've changed their packaging to a plastic cylinder.  I've tried to come up with a good way to upcycle these containers.  My idea was a sunglasses holder!  It's the perfect size to throw your sunglasses in and throw it in your car or your purse.  Personalize it with any scrapbook paper. 

You will need a piece of scrapbook paper, mod podge, a foam brush, fine grit sandpaper, and your drink mix canister.



Remove the drink mix label.  Measure your container and cut your scrapbook paper to fit around it.  Don't have the paper go all the way to the top of the container.  Leave a little space for the lid to fit on.  Lightly sand your container to rough it up a bit.  This will help the paper adhere.  Use the foam brush to coat the canister with a thin coat of mod podge.  Also brush on a thin layer of mod podge on the back of your paper.  Place the paper on your canister, smoothing out any air pockets as you go.  Let dry.

Next, use your foam brush to paint a layer of mod podge onto the top of your paper.  Let dry completely.  It should not feel sticky.  Repeat this step 2 more times, allowing to dry between each coat.  Your sunglass holder is now ready to go!
