The other night my husband was just saying that we needed a place to charge all of our gadgets. We both have cell phones, plus he has an iPad for work, and the girls have a tablet as well. So we are always switching out cords to charge our different things.
I have seen charging stations, usually in the high end catalogs. I know I've seen them in stores too, I just can't remember where. They usually look like large, simple jewelry boxes but they seem to cost a lot more. So when I found this box at Goodwill the other day, I was pretty excited. Perfect timing, plus it was only $6.
They actually had a large jewelry box as well that I could have used. Be creative when looking for a container to convert.
I'm not sure what this box was used for. It looks like it is missing a drawer at the bottom. The top has slots that may have been used for mail or something, but they aren't very deep so I'm really not sure.
It didn't matter what it used to be, because we were going to make it our own. We actually decided to turn it the other way. The drawer opening was now going to be facing up. Hubby made holes in the back piece and again through the next piece to the shelving area.
He added a small screw to hang this power strip on. He plugged all the cords in and then threaded them through the holes to where each of the gadgets would be stored while charging.
The tablets slid in to the top drawer slot easily. Our phones were able to fit on to one of the shelves. We still have plenty of room to add any extra cords or accessories that we want to hide away. It really worked out that it matched our kitchen cabinets as well. It's so nice to hide all of those ugly cords and make everything look a little bit more organized!
I like how you attached the outlet plug in the back hiding all the cords. Clever!
