12 Ways to Personalize Glass Ball Ornaments

You may think you have to be an artist to create something beautiful, but that's really not the case.  Anyone can create.  It just takes a little thought and effort.  I've done the thinking, so you just need to give it a little effort.  Really it is just a little!  Most of these the kids can help you create!  Make creating ornaments your new family tradition!  Glass ball ornaments can be found in most craft stores along with the rest of the supplies you will need.  Take a look at these ideas and maybe they will inspire some of your own ideas as well!





1.  Feather Ball

The hanger of these glass balls pulls right out.  I filled this ball with brightly colored feathers.  I glued one on the top to add a little more interest.




2.  Melted Crayon Ball



 This melted crayon ball is created by placing small pieces of crayon inside the ornament.  I used red, white, and green.  Holding the ornament with a hot mitt, place it over a candle and turn it to get the melted crayon to coat the inside of the ball.  Be careful, it gets Hot!  Do not swirl too much or the crayons will make a muddy color.  Allow to cool.  You may not want to hang it near light bulbs if you have any that get hot.



 

3.  Painted Snowman

Fill the inside of your ball with fake snow. Paint a snowman with paint pens or craft paint and a small brush.  It's just three white circles for the body & head, stick arms, rectangle hat and dots for the face and buttons!



4.  Rolled Scrapbook Paper

Cut scrapbook paper into one inch strips.  Starting at one end, roll it up tight.  Slide it into your ball.  Continue until your ball is filled up.  You can use the end of a pencil to unroll too tight rolls or to move them around.

5.  Snowball

Put some of your fake snow in a paper bowl.  Apply mod podge or glue to the outside of your ball where you want your snow to be.  Apply the glue pretty thick.  Roll the ball in your snow.  Allow to dry.  You can also use glitter instead of snow for a sparklier look.

6.  Painted Trees

Fill your ball halfway with snow.  Use a paint pen to draw on winter trees.  You could also draw large snowflakes.  I used puffy paint, which was a bit thick.  I think the pen would be better for this look.





7.  Beach Souvenir Ball

This is an easy souvenir ornament that can be made to remember a great family vacation.  My husband and I celebrated our 10th anniversary on Palm Island this year.  These were tiny shells we collected on our trip.  I didn't remember to bring home sand, so I just used the decorative kind you can buy at the craft store.  Add a little tag with the date and you've got memories to last!



8.  Polka Dot Ball



No painting skills necessary for this polka dot ball.  I used a puffy paint bottle to squeeze on these dots.  You could also make your dots by dipping the end of a pencil eraser in your paint and dot it on.  Use different colors to match your decor.  An easy ribbon bow completes the look.



9.  Tulle & Painted Letter

Just a small strip of tulle stuffed in the ball is the background for this monogrammed ornament.  Make one for each person in the family.  I also have one like this to commemorate my first marathon with a 26.2 on it.  What is special to you? 



10.  Curled Ribbon Ball



Simply curl your favorite color ribbon and add to your ornament.  Keep curling until you fill it up!



11.  Snowman Ball





Fill your ornament ball with snow to serve as your background.  Use a paint brush to paint an orange carrot nose.  Use the wrong end of your paint brush to dip in your paint and make your eyes and mouth.  So cute!



12.  Pom Pom Ball

I went with the multi colored pom poms, but you could also use Christmas colors.  This is the easiest one.  Just pop in your pom poms and hang on the tree!
