One final celebration before Ava's birthday celebration is officially over! This time it's a sweet treat to share with her Daisy Scout Troop. I will be glad when all of this baking is over. All of the finished products have been shared with friends, but there is just too much taste testing on my part during the baking process!
These cute daisy flower cookies would be fun to make with the kids for Valentine's Day. I made them to match the Daisy Troop petals that the girls earn, but they can be any color you choose.
To keep it simple, I used a cake mix to make the cookies.
Cake Mix Cookies
1 box cake mix
2 eggs
1/2 c. vegetable oil
Combine all in a mixing bowl. Drop spoonfuls on to a baking sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 8-12 minutes.
While your cookies are cooling, you can start making your decorations. Buying all different colors of decorative sugar can get expensive quick! You can make your own at home and it's so easy.
To Make Colored Sugar:
Spoon a small amount of sugar into a sandwich baggie. Simply add a couple of drops of food coloring into the bag. Close. Massage the sugar in the bag until the dye is fully mixed in.
Combine the dyes to make different colors. There are usually guides on the box to help you. To make the sugar color lighter, add more white sugar. To make it darker, add more food coloring drops.
Now it's time to make our flowers. For the flower centers I cut large marshmallows in half. This makes one side of your marshmallow sticky. Dip this side in your colored sugar.
To make your petals, cut mini marshmallows in half on the diagonal. Cutting this way gives them a more petal look. Now dip your sticky sides in your sugars. I found multi-colored mini marshmallows which were nice since I had so many different colors to make for the Daisy petals. I had three different colored pinks to make, so to make the lightest one I simply dipped the pink marshmallows in plain white sugar.
To add the petals to your cookies, simply spread frosting on the top of your cookie. Place your flower center in the middle of your cookie. Add your petals to the outsides.
Now comes the really fun part, time to eat!!
Very cute. My teens love cake mix cookies (they make them for everything).
