Father's Day Book for Dad

Now that Mother's Day is over, Father's Day will be here before you know it.  Time seems to fly at the end of the school year.  After school is out, the kids are excited for a bit and then the 'I'm Bored' thing starts.  I've been collecting art projects that I've seen on clearance to have on hand for the summer months.  It's always good to keep their brains thinking and creating. 

Here's a fun project that the kids will love to help create, and will be a great gift for Father's Day!  My kids and I created this book for Dad a couple of years ago.  It is like a card, but expanded to a few pages.  You can make yours as big or small as you'd like.  We chose to make a page for each of Dad's favorite activities.  You could also have each child make their own page.

First we made a cover page that simply stated Happy Father's Day!  We cut letters out of patterned scrapbook paper and glued it on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of scrapbook paper.  You can add any embellishments that you would like. 

For the inside pages, you will want to create a template for Dad's body.  You can find a Paper Doll template HERE to print out and use to trace on your colored paper.  There are a number of templates you can find online if you would like a different look or sketch your own.  Cut a body for each page.

Now it's time for the kids to get creative.  Have them create a scene of the things Dad likes to do.  Our Dad likes to BBQ.  He also likes to go to the beach and eat ice cream.  Use scraps of paper, stickers, crayons, markers, and other embellishments you may have on hand to let their imaginations go.

Our Dad likes to watch the Magic play basketball on TV as he enjoys a beer.

He also likes to play soccer.  You can use the body template to help you create some clothes as well.

We added a final page for all of the kids to add their own notes.  Even if they can't write yet, they will love to add their own scribbles.  Dad will love to have these scribbles and be able to look back at them for years to come.

To put all of our pages together, we punched holes in all of our pages and used brads to attach them together.  Your project is complete and all the kids will have had a hand in creating it.  What Dad wouldn't love to receive this gift on Father's Day?!
