Elastic Hair Ties & Headbands with Bling!

My favorite head band was this soft elastic one that I bought on clearance at a store in the mall called Love's Creation.  They sell unique and handmade items.  Purchases support a local charity that helps uninsured and homeless people with medical needs.  Unfortunately my head does not seem to be the right shape for headbands, no matter how hard I try!  Since it was so soft and comfortable, I didn't even notice when it slipped up and popped off my head somewhere in Sea World.  So sad!  I've been looking everywhere for a headband like it without much luck.  Until now!

The other day at Michael's I came across the same soft elastic as my favorite headband!  I couldn't wait to make my own hair accessories.  I have actually found some of these online for $5 + shipping.  Not going to pay that, especially if there's that chance that it's going to pop off my head again.  I found the same elastic in a package for around $3 and it was long enough to make a couple of headbands and a few hair ties as well.  This elastic is supposed to be better for your hair, not making such bad creases if you want to take your hair down after having it in a ponytail

I wanted to make these a little fun so I found some large beads to add for decoration.  When looking for beads, make sure the hole is big enough to slip the elastic through.  You might even be able to use buttons if you find any with a large shank. 

To make a headband, I cut a piece of elastic about 21" long.  You can just wrap it around your head to see how much you will need, and then add a couple of inches so you have enough to tie your knot.  You can always move your knot up or down if you need to make your headband bigger or smaller.  After cutting your elastic, slip your bead onto it.  Now tie a knot in one end and slip it on.  Wear it to keep your hair back or with an up do to add a little fun and bling.  Wear it with the knot up for a different look too.

To make a hair tie, cut a piece of elastic about 10" long.  Add your beads.  I used two, but you could use one or even three to dress it up. 

Tie a knot in one end.  Now just use it to pull your hair back into a pony tail.  Cute, easy, and a little bling to dress it up!

Want to take you hair down?  Put your hair tie around your wrist and it is a cute little bracelet!  Much cuter than a plain ol' rubber hair band.  Even the headbands can be wrapped around a few times, making them a multi strand bracelet.  I love how multipurpose these can be.
