Double Strand Braided Ribbon Headband

My two older girls are in elementary school, but they are up at 6am and out the door by 6:42am (or a few minutes later if we run) in order to catch the bus.  We always have their clothes picked out the night before but after getting dressed, eating breakfast, wasting some time, looking for a jacket, wasting a little more time,  and then brushing their teeth, they really don't have that much time to do their hair.  It really doesn't matter anyways, they always just want to wear headbands.  My middle Bug just has a fit evey time we have to put her hair in a ponytail.  She has such a sensitive head that I hate having to do it too!  So really headbands work out best for us and they can be seen most days in them.

I really love the look of the double strand headbands that they have out there right now.  They look so cute with a casual outfit, but also elegant with an updo and a formal gown!

How fun would it be to create our own Double Strand Headband!

All you need for this project is a hair rubber band and three strands of ribbon, ric rac, chain...

They can be three different colors or all the same.

My strands were all about 28 inches long.  It's always better to have it too long and cut it off than to be left short!  Tie all three strands together around your rubber band.  Hook your rubber band around something or have someone hold it.  Now start braiding. 

When you get to the end of your strands, tie them to your rubber band.  Try the headband on to measure for size.  Adjust to fit and retie your ribbons in place.  Make sure you double knot these tight so they don't come undone.  You may even want to add a dab of hot glue on the knots to keep them from slipping.  The ric rac actually kept my knots pretty tight.  Trim off the long ends of your knots.

Repeat these same steps with a second set of ribbons.  Tie your knots right next to your first set.  Trim the excess ribbon and your headband is ready to wear!
