I wouldn't say that I have a ton of valuables that I really need a safe for, but how fun is this book safe! It doesn't have to be for valuables, maybe just for special notes and mementos you want to keep safe. Or how about a treasure hunt for the kids! The final surprise could be hidden in this safe! I bet they'd love to have a secret place of their own to keep all their little treasures!
There is a used bookstore near our house that usually has a box of free books that they leave out front. I found this nice hardback book. I thought the cover was pretty too. Perfect for my project. Then I found and old VHS cassette at Goodwill for $0.25. I just took the cover out so that it would be plain.
I used scissors to cut the pages away from the spine of the book. You can always use these pages for future projects. Check out my Dictionary Pendant for inspiration.
Your book will look like this after you remove the pages.
Use hot glue to adhere the VHS case to the front and back covers. Don't glue the spine in place. This will make it easier to open and close your safe.
This is how your book safe will look when it is finished.
And when your book safe is closed!
Can you pick out the book safe in our bookshelf?
Here it is!
