American Girl Doll Sleeping Bag

My girls are just starting to get to the age where they want to have sleepovers with their friends.  My oldest recently had her first sleepover party for her 8th birthday.  It was just a few friends, so it was pretty painless.  The girls watched some movies, danced, and just played in their room for the evening.  The girls also played with their American Girl dolls, since my daughter got a new jeep for her doll.  When it was time for bed, they all crawled into their sleeping bags.  I started thinking, maybe the dolls needed their own sleeping bags!

They are pretty simple to make, with just a few seams.  You will need a piece of material measuring 32 x 21 inches in your patterned fabric and also one in your matching fleece material.  Pin your pieces right sides together.  Sew around the edge with a 1/2 inch seam allowance leaving a gap in one of the long sides.  Turn it right sides out, making sure your corners are pulled out. 

Fold your material in half with the fleece to the inside, matching your two short sides up.  Make sure the gap you left is now on the bottom of your sleeping bag.  Pin the bottom together and halfway up the side.  Cut two pieces of elastic about 11 inches long.  Fold in half and slip them about an inch in to the bottom opening, one three inches in from the left side and one three inches in from the right side.  Pin them in place.  These will be used to keep the sleeping bag rolled up when it's not being used.

Topstitch across the bottom and then about two thirds the way up the side.  This way the doll can slip in and out easily. 

To store your sleeping bag, start at the top and roll it down.  Slip the elastic loops around your roll to keep it that way. 

You can even make a matching pillow for your doll.  Cut two pieces of fabric to the size of your pillow.  Pin right sides together.  Sew around the edges, leaving a small opening.  Turn right sides out.  Stuff with polyfil and close your opening!

Your doll is now ready for her sleepover!
